K's Passing

It has been a very long two weeks, filled with tears, grief, and remembrance. Last Friday, a good friend K passed away peacefully in her sleep. Six years ago she had been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. After treatment, her cancer was officially categorized as in remission, and then four years ago, she was rediagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer. It had spread to her bones and other soft tissue. After a hard fought war, she lost her last battle literally one week ago. I learned about this the day after, when I was participating in a breast cancer fundraiser. Ironic.
Yesterday K was laid to rest. It was a very touching ceremony, and I learned so many details of her life that I had never known. Many of us did, but the essence of her stories was her, and that we all knew well. She leaves behind a husband, two small children aged eight and six, and so many of her family and friends who dearly loved her. We'll miss you K, but you will never be far from our thoughts.
Now it's time to focus on the living again. We're all in this together.
